emsbrynart
Emsbrynart is a lot of things, but in summation, it’s a place where you can buy clothes that act as more than just things to dress yourself with.
I create these tees in hopes that when they’re worn, they show the person across the street that they’re safe with you. This clothing is made with the idea that when you turn around, and a young queer kid can read the back of your shirt, they see someone in public who wants them to succeed, thrive, and be able to grow up. As a queer + mexican kid, I sought out these fleeting signs + silent conversations a lot, and wanted to make clothes for you all, by someone like you all.
I’ve always been drawn in by passing connections like this. I love reading people’s bumper stickers, backpack pins, keychains, etc, and getting a transitory read on who they are. As an artist, I knew I wanted to contribute to the little personality quirks we showcase in our day to day lives. I began screenprinting as a means to mass produce these designs in a sustainable manner, ensuring that each item I created continued to be handmade and on shirts that already existed in our world. So regardless of if you’re sporting a pro-safe-immigration tote bag, a girl kisser shirt, or a queer bumper sticker, you’re signaling to someone else that their life has value to you. And to play the quietest part in that interaction, to be the bridge between you and a stranger, will probably be the greatest honor + pleasure of my entire life.
There’s so much more I could say, and want to say, but for now I’ll digress. Thank you for giving me the best job of my life.
